The 16th of October marks World Food Day. World Food Day is celebrated around the world and brings together all peoples, races, cultures and religions in the fight to eradicate hunger from our world.
Celebrated since its establishment in 1979, World Food Day has been recognised every year in almost every country by millions of people. From hunger walks and World Food Day dinners to meal packaging events and food drives, there are many ways for people to be a part of solutions to hunger.
The theme of this years World Food Day has been coined – ‘Feeding the World, Caring for the Earth‘.
Imams Online is therefore calling on all Muslims to be active and particiapte in any way they can with World Food initiatives as the theme invokes key Islamic principles of Charity and Protection of the Environment.
Our contribution to eradicating hunger from this world should be ongoing for the Muslim Community. Our faith leaders, our religious instituions need to continue delivering this message and need to continue facilitating platforms for the community to riase funds and distribute food to the most needy.
Our Lord tells us that the most pious amongst us are those who:
…Give food, inspite of their love for it, to the poor, the orphan, and the captive, (Saying): “We feed you seeking Allah’s Countenance only. We wish for no reward, nor thanks from you… (76:8-9)
Our Lord also tell us that the true worshippers are those that:
….tread Gently upon this Earth… and Speak words of Peace… (25:63)
It is also related in the Narrations of the Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) that he said:
“Give food to the hungry, pay a visit to the sick and set free the one in captivity”. (Narrated in Bukhari)
We continue to make sincere dua for those that are suffering from poverty and dying from hunger. We continue to support and show our thanks to those indivduals and organsaitions that continually strive hard and for the eradication of hunger in the world. Let us as Muslims be at the forefront of solutions to this problem.
