The recent targeting of Mosques, Muslim homes and businesses in Delhi and across India is absolutely abhorrent.
History teaches us that is violence based on one’s religious identity is left unchallenged, the consequences can be extremely terrifying.
Horrific images were shown and spread across social media of a Mosque set on fire and holy books destroyed by mobs shouting “Jai Shri Ram” and “Hinduon ka Hindustan” paraded around the burning Mosque. Further, a Hanuman flag was placed on the minaret of the Mosque.
Freedom of religion is a fundamental human right and nobody should feel intimidated, threatened or persecuted because of his or her faith anywhere in the world.
These images that were shared across social media highlighted the worst of us and take us back to the dark days of partition.
Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have sadly lost their lives due to this violence.
