Islamic State (I.S) have abducted dozens of Assyrian Christians from villages in north-eastern Syria, activists say.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that at least 90 men, women and children were seized in a series of dawn raids near the town of Tal Tamr.
In Libya, ISIS jihadists last week released a video showing the beheadings of 21 mostly Egyptian Christians.
Osama Edward of the Sweden-based Assyrian Human Rights Network, who has relatives in the area, has said his wife’s elderly aunt and her cousin were among the hostages.
“My wife tried to call her cousin’s house and there was somebody who picked up the phone and said: ‘This is not Akram’s house. This is the Islamic State’s house’.”
”We need to stop allowing our religion to be dragged through the mud”
Shayk Hamza Yusuf, Co-Founder of Zaytuna College in America spoke out against the actions of I.S. He highlights the need for the Muslims to speak up against wrongful actions, it is important to show the beauty of Islam, the Islam of the Prophet (pbuh).
He stated earlier this week: ”We have to condemn these things (the killing of Coptic Christians/Da’esh). We need to speak up against this. We, as Muslims, need to stop allowing our religion to be dragged through the mud. The madness you see out there, that is not Islam! No matter what all these right wing Islamo-fascists are saying, or whatever you want to call them– that is not Islam. It’s not the Islam that I embraced, this is not the Islam that your grandparents practiced, it’s not the Islam of our great scholars and it’s most certainly not the Islam of our Prophet”.
