Asalaam alaikoum wr wb
From Qur’an and hadith are we able to fully comprehend the duties, expectations and ultimate outcomes for individuals that are afflicted with a severe psychiatric illness such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder in regard to his or her deen?
What I mean to say is, an individual may have a good heart and good intentions but due to the nature of their illness waver to the extreme in both their levels of iman and ibadah.  When they regain taqwa through being of sound mind they make a commitment to act upon it but this can be interrupted at any point due to the nature of their illness.
All muslims regardless of disease, disorders and illness struggle at times. This is just a reality of the dunya but we cannot hide the fact that being severely mentally ill, even if mostly on the outside few would realise it, does impact all facets of a person’s life.  From family, education, work and of course ibadah.
I look forward to your response on this matter and Allah knows best.
