I’m this close to leaving Islam after reading about laws on marital rape. People are telling me that consent doesn’t exist after marriage, that a woman/man has no right to deny their partner’s needs, and that even if it is wrong to force yourself upon them, you will be sinned for saying no, unless you have a good reason like fasting or recently given birth or are on your period. I personally believe rape is as simple as anybody coming on you and you saying “no” and they continue to go on you. It doesn’t matter if they’re your husband, neighbour, or stranger, that’s rape.
Please help me out, I’m terrified that my religion thinks this is okay.
