ASA. I am a 23 year old unmarried Muslim woman (fully practicing, I observe hijab, have served on board for my university’s Muslim Student Association, and regularly teach at the Sunday school for whichever Masjid I am near), and I recently finished college outside my home. I am doing interviews for work right now, because I have had a lot of financial responsibilities to help my family with (they depend on me monthly) so I need to be working. I recently interviewed with 2 jobs: one close to home where I could commute, and one far from home that I would have to move out of the house again for.
I prayed immense Istikhara for whichever job was khair for me, and subhanAllah WHILE I was finishing up my prayer before I could say salaam I got a call from the job close to home telling me they wouldn’t be giving me an offer. Of course, this leaves me to have to take the job far from home, but I was wondering if it would be haraam to take that job, and if it was haraam to do istikhara on that job that I would have to move out of the house for (even though I need to be working, I am unmarried). Also, was it a sign that WHILE I was finishing up my istikhara on my jobs that I was informed I wouldn’t be offered the job close to home? Was Allah answering my prayers? Should I take the job farther from home? After all, I would be moving out the same way I moved out for college. I don’t have a house or husband or kids at this time. JZK.
