I am a revert and whilst the Non-muslim women in my family fully accept my decision and are accepting of the traditions I have decided to follow and fully approve of the Islamic traditions of a halal marriage as they see it as safer and better for women. My father and the men in my family are a completely different story.
My father was brought up christian and believes my choice to follow Islam is a mistake. Now that I am thinking of marriage and have told him the halal way of Islamic courting, engagement and marriage he is completely against it. Although he is not muslim and I will need a Wali to marry, is it against my Deen if I still go through with a marriage if my father disapproves to the point of cutting me out of his life?
I do not see my father’s view changing in time and it is making me feel lost at the idea that whenever I marry my father and the men in my family would not be taking part in my future marriage at all.
