On the 19th November, the Light Foundation, a Preston based organisation that provides support and companionship for new converts to Islam and facilitates workshops and events with members of other faith groups and the wider Non-Muslim community, held a special interfaith event entitled, ” ‘What is Prayer’? – The Christian and Muslim Perspectives”.
The event was held as part of an ongoing effort to help foster interfaith relations and ‘build bridges’ of friendship and mutual respect between members of major faith groups who share in the desire to promote peace and tolerance through faith.
One of the keynote speakers at the event was Shaykh Haroon Hanif of Liverpool who currently teaches at the micro madrassah initiative in Liverpool.
One of the key people involved with the Light Foundation is a contributing editor to Imams Online, brother Nadeem Ashfaq. Nadeem’s post event thank you can be read below:
****** Thank you ******
A sincere and heartfelt thank you from everyone at the Light Foundation to all those who gathered at our Interfaith event last night in collaboration with our Christian friends on; “What is Prayer”- The Christian and Muslim Perspectives”, in a series of important topics aimed at ‘Building Bridges and Seeking the Truth in a Spirit of Friendship and Mutual Respect’
As we unfortunately witness mistrust, fear, misconception and scare-mongering in our worl…d from those determined to split communities in to “them” and “us”, last night saw the opposite.
We had another remarkable and lively display of togetherness from both Christians and Muslims, with two enlightening presentations from our respected guest speakers, Shaykh Haroon Hanif and Bruce Warren.
A final note of thanks to our teachers for their prayers, support and guidance, and to our excellent volunteers who helped make last night another success.
***A video recording will be made available soon***
Thank you / Jazak’allah khayr
