“There are casualties everywhere”
On the 4th August, the world witnessed a true disaster in Beirut that has caused mass damage, destruction and loss of life.
This blast in Lebanon is a national and global tragedy with the latest death toll at 135 with around 5,000 wounded and over 300,000 made homeless. Most sources ascribe the blast to over 2,700 tonnes of chemicals which caught fire after being wrongfully stored at the major port in Beirut.
The economic costs of the blasts to a country which has already been crippled by a recession and the effects of Covid related lockdowns is estimated by the Governor of Beirut to be between $10-15bn. The future for many citizens of Beirut looks far from positive with economic tensions in the country resulting in protests earlier this year.
Following the horrific tragedy, Imam Adam Kelwick decided to travel to Beirut to help provide support, aid and help to the people of Beirut.

Huge thank you to my beloved Mum who made me this face mask which doesn’t just make me look like a fashionable ninja, but it is also very comfortable and covers my beard.
Love you Mum ❤ Keep me in your prayers and I’ll see you when I get back from Lebanon, in sha Allah. pic.twitter.com/eFJQmSFpbi
