A 46 year old man killed 11 people in a in a Pittsburgh synagogue on Saturday 27th October 2018. His motive? He was angry at Jews for helping Muslim refugees flee to safety in America.
In posts on Gab, the social media network favoured by white supremacists, Bowers wrote that HIAS wants “to bring in hostile invaders to dwell among us.” Another white supremacist’s post on Gab that Bowers reposted read: “It’s the filthy EVIL jews Bringing the Filthy EVIL Muslims into the Country!! Stop the kikes then Worry About the Muslims!”
His attack has brought together the Muslim and Jewish communities in their fight against hatred.

It was heavy tonight as we grieved together with the Jewish community. A sad recognition that this could’ve been any community, and that this is probably not the last time a tragedy like this will happen. But we will persevere, ONLY together. pic.twitter.com/CoRqdfJRCD

I have no words to express my grief and fury and heartache for the dead, wounded, and traumatized today. May we find a swift turn around to the hatred and violence that newly plagues this country. #Pittsburgh 💔

Hatred for any group leads to hatred against all. The man who massacred 11 Jews as they worshipped in their synagogue wrote:
"It’s the filthy EVIL jews Bringing the Filthy EVIL Muslims into the Country!!"

Members of the Imams Council of the Michigan Muslim Community Council lined the stage during an awards dinner to offer condolences to those killed and injured in the shooting at Tree of Life synagogue and vigils are being held to show solidarity with Pittsburgh. Our thoughts and prayers are with all effected.
