Imam Ijaz Shami triumphed at the 3rd British Beacon Mosque Awards 2020 in the youth category, with Sadiq Khan giving a guest speech about the great work done by Mosques across the UK during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Imam Ijaz Shami won the Most Impactful Imam, having been shortlisted alongside six other Imams for their work in 2020, the award was presented by Imam Qari Asim.
In 2018, Faith Associates launched Beacon Mosque Standards, an initiative recognising excellent practices and establishing global standards for Muslim places of worship.
The Most Impactful Imam award looks to award Imams who have positively contributed to the Mosque and the local community, showing impact.
Imam Ijaz Shami had been heavily involved in supporting the community in Birmingham during the COVID-19 pandemic, providing regular funerals, support to families grieving, visiting the elderly and being involved in various charitable efforts.
