An announcement yesterday (6th September 2016) by Awaaz FM and on the Abu Bakr Jamia Mosque‘s Facebook page confirmed the passing of Southampton’s first and longest serving imam, Maulana Casim Hansrot.
Maulana Casim was the first Imam in the City of Southampton and over a distinguished career spanning some 30 years, taught many thousands of children to pray, read and recite the Holy Quran.
Imam Casim was the only Imam in Southampton for some time, fulfilling his duties whilst raising a family of five children.
His children include two sons who themselves became Imams and continue to serve Muslim communities in the UK today.
A spokesman for Awaaz FM, said:
The longest serving Imam in the history of this great city, a loving father, grandfather and teacher he will be sorely missed by all those who knew him.
His funeral will be held today (7th September) at the Abu Bakr Mosque in Southampton at 2.15pm.
