Feeding your Neighbours – Islam and World Food Day

He is not a believer who eats his fill whilst his neighbour beside him goes hungry.

[Sahih Bukhari]

Today, the 16th of October is World Food Day. It is a day of action against hunger. On this day, people around the world come together to declare their commitment to eradicate hunger in our lifetime because when it comes to hunger, the only acceptable number in the world is zero.

Our beloved prophet Muhammad (saw) constantly emphasised the importance of giving food to your neighbours, be they Muslim or non-Muslim. As a Muslim community living in the UK, we must make it a priority to ensure that those around us do not go to sleep hungry. We must make sure we are at the forefront of providing food and striving hard to eradicate hunger in the world.
