Aston Villa have teamed up with Birmingham FA to launch the region’s first ever Ramadan Football League in Birmingham.
The league will host games between midnight and 2am in the morning to allow those observing Ramadan the opportunity to not miss out on maintaining an active lifestyle.
The Ramadan Football League will run between 26 May and 23 June 2017, with games taking place every Friday and Saturday at the Aston Villa Academy building (next to Villa Park).
The seven-a-side league is for 16 year-olds and above and teams are being encouraged to enter the league.
Organisers have reported that there has already been plenty of interest from non-Muslim teams as well as Muslims who will be observing Ramadan.
The Ramadan Football League is the latest project to be launched by Birmingham FA to provide additional playing opportunities to various communities across the region.
Obayed Hussain, Football Development Coordinator at Birmingham FA, said,
“This is the first year that the Birmingham FA has delivered a project of this nature. I believe that this is a fantastic example of the way in which we aim to provide football opportunities to all aspects of our community.
We have worked closely with the Aston Villa Foundation to get this project off the ground and delighted that we have received a positive response to date. However, we want as many people as possible involved, so should anybody wish to register a team, I’d encourage them to get in touch“.
