The Abu Dhabi Forum for Peace organised an important Roundtable event with Shaykh Abdallah bin Bayyah, British Muslim scholars and civil society leaders on the 3rd of July, 2022 at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London, UK.
The event focused on discussing the ‘Path of Peace’ and Shaykh bin Bayyah’s vision for a Peaceful World and how Muslims across the UK and the globe can achieve this. Additionally, the attendees discussed the opportunities and challenges present in order to achieve such aims. Shaykh Abdallah is the President of the Forum for Promoting Peace and is a leading Muslim scholar in today’s time who has illustrated the theological legitimacy of values such as tolerance, equal citizenship, the rights of minorities and the importance of good interfaith relations. The roundtable event offered an exciting opportunity for local scholars and leaders to engage in useful dialogue with each other and the learned Shaykh. The pluralistic gathering represented the diverse schools of thought that constitute Islam in Britain.
Imams Online organised a similar event with Abu Dhabi Forum for Peace, having organised a similar event in 2017 titled ‘Islam in a Globalising World‘, after which a book bearing the same title has been published (see attached below). In the book, Shaykh Abdallah emphasises the critical role positive religious guidance plays in today’s complex and confusing world. He affirms that strong faith leadership and a committed adherence to the ways and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم are the perfect antidote to the ills and evils prevalent in today’s world. Additionally, the book also documents the Q&A session that was held at the event, which included questions of both a scholastic and social nature.
